Last week WAMU published a great article about why Capitol Hill interns should be paid. You don’t need to tell us twice! According to the article, the majority of hill internships are unpaid; Senate internships are more likely to pay than House internships; and Republicans are more likely the pay than Democrats. In addition, the sources indicate that failure to pay interns leads to a lack of diversity in the intern pool. Much of this information comes from an organization called Pay Our Interns. You can bet we’ll be looking into ways to partner with them going forward. Truly, the article is directly on-point, and I can’t say it any better than the author, Mikaela Lefrak, did. Go read it, and then come back and donate to support our programs and help us fix the problem.
