Special Event Volunteers:

Do you care about diversity and the future of diversity and leadership in America? If so we need your help. We need volunteers to help us manage the following events this year.

  1. The Liberty and Access Labs  ( All Summer )
  2. The Women’s Leadership Media Training  ( April 29th )
  3. L+A Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Hackathon ( November )

Responsibilities

Volunteers will help us: ( recruit attendees, register participants, set up and break down classroom and training space, take pictures during the event and live Tweet and Facebook during the event). We are looking for energetic and reliable volunteers who like to work in a dynamic place. Must have reliable transportation and a great attitude. Volunteers will have the opportunity to attend our trainings and all private events for free.

L+A Public Health and Public Health Policy Fellow:

Liberty and Access For All  (L+A) seeks 2 graduate students or recent graduates to serve as a Public Health and Public Health Policy Fellows. These positions will be part of the L+A Youth Leadership Academy. Selected candidates will be placed with our partner organization  Community Wellness Collective.  The Community Wellness Collective (CWC) seeks to improve the health and nutrition literacy of Southeast D.C. residents through low cost access to health and wellness workshops.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Public Health and Public Health Policy Fellows will work together with the founder and president to develop health literacy and wellness workshops as well as build public awareness.  The workshops will center on issues like HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Diabetes and Heart diseases. Fellows will do the following:

  • Manage all logistics for workshops includes but not limited to,
    • Getting community members to attend
    • Booking space and speakers
    • Getting media coverage
  • Manage and create relationships with partner organizations
  • Develop an advocacy and marketing campaign to bring awareness regarding public health policy issues of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Diabetes and Heart diseases
  • Speak on behalf of the organization at community events
  • Create email and info packets for the community and partners
  • Assist with the organization’s fundraising effort
  • Write a status report regarding your work and the organization’s impact

Requirements

Candidates who are selected must have a desire to work in advocacy and public health. Selected candidates must be able to work independently and have access to reliable transportation. Upon acceptance in the program, students must go through an intensive work and project readiness training and commit to at least three to six months of work.

To apply, candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Can legally work in the United States
  • Graduate student or recent graduate from a Public Health/ Public Policy Master’s program at an accredited University
  • Has a high level of comfort speaking and outreaching to potential partners on the phone and in person
  • Strong professional verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Google Docs
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Able to multitask and can easily switch gears to finish priorities
  • Able to work independently and in a group setting
  • Has an extreme attention to detail
  • Able to work at home if need be
  • Can work 30-40 hours a week

These are Paid Fellowships. A generous monthly stipend will be given to qualified candidates. These positions have potential to turning into a full-time paid position after six months.

Government Relations Liaison

We are seeking a Government Relations Liaison. As the Government Relations Liaison, you will work directly with the Founder to research and cultivate relationships with staff and interns on Capitol Hill and the Federal Government. You will also assist in organizing the Liberty and Access Lab events. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to develop skills in nonprofit work.

As a Government Relations Liaison you will:

  • Work with our lists to outreach to organizations and Hill offices.
  • Participate in client calls, client launch meetings and daily project status meetings.
  • Research prospective organizations, develop and maintain.
  • Recruit students, Capitol Hill staff and government staff to attend our programing.
  • Work with other staff and interns.
  • Research demographic data and compile survey data that will be included in blogs, and report.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a student seeking a bachelor’s or Master’s degree. We’re also open to new grads looking for work experience.
  • Is comfortable using the phone
  • Works well with tight deadlines and keeps a cool head under pressure.
  • Has their own Laptop.
  • Possess high level of organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs
  • Has the ability to multitask and develop multiple projects and tasks.
  • Has great time management skills.
  • Works well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Lives in the metro accessible DMV area
  • Is willing work 20 hours a week.

Communications  Fellow/Intern:

We’re seeking a recent graduate student, or a current graduate student in the communications masters’ program. Candidates must be able to commit to at least 3 months of work.

As a Communications Fellow you will: 

  • Post articles to the L+A website.
  • Manage the ONE-ON- ONE project which will include interviewing elected officials and community leaders and creating profile pieces.
  • Write program reports.
  • Write press releases.
  • Pitch OP-EDs.
  • Participate in client calls, client launch meetings and daily project status meetings.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Creative project development.
  • Works well with tight deadlines and keeps a cool head under pressure.
  • Works hard and smart
  • Has great time management skills.
  • Is organized and detail-oriented.
  • Works well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Lives in the DMV area for the time of the internship/ fellowship
  • Willing to work 25 hours a week

Fundraising Fellow/Intern:

We’re seeking a recent graduate or current student who is a junior or senior who would love to learn about the financial and growth aspect of a  non-profit organizations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with fundraising events.
  • Research foundations, corporate and individual donors.
  • Assist the Founder and President with call time to reach out to donors.
  • Assist with completing foundation applications.
  • Prep marketing material to produce donor packets.
  • Write “thank you notes” to donors.
  • Work downtown DC and spend time researching donors at the Foundation Center.

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Motivated and willing to exceed fundraising goals.
  • Able to multi-task  and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word and Excel).

Web and Social Media Intern:

This Intern will assist in managing our organization’s social media networks and monitoring basic metrics. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to develop skills in nonprofit communications work. The Outreach and Social Media-go Intern –wants to learn about working with a Nonprofit, is detailed oriented, and loves doing media outreach.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help disseminate daily content online.
  • Grow our social media community.work desk - Copy
  • Know how to take photos and record Vines and video.
  • Foster alliance building and networking among supporters, like-minded groups and organizations, and journalists/bloggers/editors.
  • Help generate content for and manage social media platforms, including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, and others.
  • Monitor the social media platforms and identify ways to engage our audience.
  • Help to foster an online relationship with TV, radio stations and newspapers.
  • Support the development of specific online outreach programs.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Experience with all social media platforms.
  • Experience posting content on website and using HTML and Flicker.
  • Possess high level of organizational skills and be detail orientated.
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to take photos and record video and vines.
  • Ability to multitask and develop multiple projects and tasks.

Position offers an excellent opportunity to work on substantive projects and can result in a great reference. Currently seeking a student seeking a bachelor or master’s degree in communications. We are also open to applicants who just graduated and looking to build their resume. Must be able to work at least 25 hours per week.
